Cetra v0.2 beta release - FF7 Editor by Ficedula ------------------------------------------------ Other programs by me: -Cosmo: Edit text and sound effects in FF7 -LGP Tools: Edit/replace file archives and graphics in FF7 -FF8 Configurator v2.2: Use high quality SF2 soundfonts in FF8 Cetra ----- Cetra is the beta release of a patching program for FF7. Basically it can alter data in the FF7 program files and setup. This beta release has two patches with it: A 32-bit colour patch, and a debug message patch. How to use ---------- Easy because there isn't much you can do ;) First time you run Cetra it will ask you to set the FF7 and Cetra folders. The FF7 folder is the one with FF7.EXE in it. Your Cetra folder is the folder where you unzipped the .cetra files into. Other options: -Fuzzy search: Doesn't do anything yet; when complete, will try to apply patches even if the version of FF7.EXE you have is different to the version the person who made the patch had. -Allow registry edit: Allow patches to change the registry. Recommended: On. In the main window, choose a patch file in the left-hand list to see a description of it. To apply it, just click the Apply button. Cetra will tell you what it's trying to do and whether it succeeded or not ;) 32-bit Colour Patch ------------------- Modifies FF7 so it selects 32-bit colour, not 16-bit colour, when choosing video modes. The patch is stable; however, some parts of FF7 *will not* work properly in 32-bit colour; there's nothing I can do about this. The game won't crash (well, it didn't for me); but you may not see everything on the screen. I lost movies and the enter-battle swirl when the patch was active; your experience may be different. On the plus side of course, it does make things look better ;) Debugmode patch --------------- Modifies FF7 so it prints out debug messages. You can view these using a debug message interceptor (I use debugview from www.sysinternals.com), but FF7 will also output them to a file called APP.LOG. No known problems with this patch. Windowed mode ------------- Run FF7 in a window. Cool. Music patch ----------- When used in conjunction with my FF7MUSIC program, lets you replace the midi music in FF7 with MP3's, CD audio, or whatever type of music file you want! What are the different versions? -------------------------------- There ARE different versions of FF7.EXE out there. I don't have them all. I don't have ANY of the non-English versions so until I get fuzzy searching working, you can't alter those at all. I DO have two versions of FF7: v1.00: The initial English language release v1.02: The second NVidia patch; includes support for Riva and TNT cards. (Also works with Radeons). So, my patches support those two versions in theory; in practice, I only test them with v1.02 since v1.00 doesn't run with my video card. So I recommend you use v1.02 even if you don't have an NVidia card (you don't HAVE to turn on the NVidia support; it's an option in the Config). How to make patches? -------------------- Ooh, not simple at all. You need to be fairly good at assembler programming. If you are, have made some patches and would like Cetra to support them, contact me and I'll explain how to make .cetra patches. About ----- Cetra was coded by Ficedula (ficedula@lycos.co.uk) http://ficedula.cjb.net Thanks to the SaiNt for the C source code I used as a guide when making the patches ;)
